Hockey

Hockey is the national sport of India and is very famous in Jalandhar. In fact Sansarpur in Jalandhar is called the nursery of hockey and has produced a number of world famous hockey players. The village has nurtured 300 national hockey players and produced more Olympic medallists per capita than any other place in the world. It has produced 12 great Olympians of Indian Hockey. Ajit Pal Singh, Surjit Singh, Pargat Singh are some of the great personalities in the field of hockey belonging to Jalandhar. In Jalandhar a hockey stadium is named after Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Academy.  A hockey academy named after him was established in the year 1991-92.

Burlton Park/Gandhi Stadium

Previously it was known as Burlton Park and the BS Bedi Stadium.  The stadium was built in 1955.  this ground was awarded test status in 1983, when it hosted a test match between India and Pakistan. The first ODI was played two years earlier when it hosted a match between England and India in 1981. The stadium serves as the home ground for two Indian domestic cricket teams: Punjab and North Zone.
